ProMoodTM
is formulated to reduce symptoms of:
• Depression
• Anxiety
• PMS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain
• Insomnia
ProMoodTM Ingredients:
St.
John’s Wort extract (Hypericum perforatum)
(contains 0.3% Hypericum & 3% Hyperforin):
An herb with bright yellow flowers
that has been used for centuries to treat
emotional disorders as well as a powerful
antibacterial and antifungal remedy. More
than 30 clincal studies support the effectiveness
of St. John’s Wort in managing the
symptoms of mild-moderate depression.
These studies have compared this herb
to placebo (showing that it is significantly
more effective than placebo) and against
other pharmaceutical drugs (showing that
this herb is as effective as SSRIs as
well as tricyclic antidepressants.). In
Germany, doctor’s recommend St John’s
Wort many times more often than prescription
antidepressants such as Prozac. While
the extract contains various chemical
components, hypericin has long been identified
as a key medicinal component. More recent
research has pointed to a compound hyperforin
for therapeutic effects. Good preparations
of this extract should be standardized
to both these compounds (0.3 % hypericin
and 3% hyperforin). Highest concentrations
of these are obtained from the leaves
and flowers rather than the root of the
plant.
Mechanism of action as an antidepressant
is not known but in general, it is believed
that St. John’s Wort boosts the
levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin
as well as catecholamines (dopamine and
noradrenalin).
• St John’s Wort is not recommended
for severe depression or bipolar disorder.
• It is recommended that individuals
taking any prescription medications, consult
with their health care professional before
using St. John’s Wort. Two known
interactions exist: 1) Indinavir (used
to treat HIV patients) and 2) Cyclosporin
(used by transplant patients).
• It should not be used by those
using prescription antidepressants (SSRI
or tricyclics). Patients should stop using
the antidepressant drugs GRADUALLY before
starting herbal medications.
• Very few side effects have been
reported with the use of this herb, including
very mild dry mouth, gastrointestinal
upset, dizziness, fatigue, and increased
sensitivity to sunlight.
• Other uses of this herb include
control of PMS and fibromyalgia symptoms,
ease of anxiety, stress and chronic pain
(associated with depression).
• When used topically, it is known
to ward off infections.
Eleuthero
Root extract (Siberian Ginseng):
Eleuthero is an energy tonic discovered
by a Russian scientist. This herb has
the ability to fight fatigue and it has
been used by Chinese healers as with other
ginsengs to reinforce body’s vital
energy. It is believed to function by
positively affecting the adrenal glands
(which are involved in the secretion of
stress fighting hormones). As an adaptogen,
it helps the body adapt to physical stress
and increases resistance to disease by
strengthening the immune system. It is
also known to increase oxygenation to
the cells, heighten mental alertness and
concentration, and adjust blood pressure
and blood sugar levels. It is less stimulating
than the Chinese counterpart and can be
taken longer.
L-Tyrosine:
Amino acid found in meat protein. Tyrosine
is a precursor to catecholamines (neurotransmitters
dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline)
and is therefore the key brain stimulating
amino acid, enhancing mood, energy, sexual
interest, mental performance and memory.
Phenylalanine (another amino acid found
in food) is converted to tyrosine which
is converted to dopamine and noradrenaline.
These conversions require vitamins (niacin,
B6, B12, folic acid and vitamin C) as
well as minerals Zn, Mg, Copper, and iron
. Catecholamines affect energy, enthusiasm,
motivation, alertness as well as memory,
clarity and mental function. Insufficiencies
lead to fatigue, fogginess, lack of concentration
and desire, etc. Insufficient dopamine
receptors may lead to “reward deficient
syndrome” which may be responsible
for substance abuse and alcoholism. Use
of tyrosine regularly leads to production
of more dopamine receptors which raises
mood over time and alleviates the depression
leading to this disorder.
5-HTP:
Obtained from the seeds of an African
plant (Griffinia Simplifolia), 5-HTP is
a Precursor to the neurotransmitter, serotonin.
Serotonin promotes feeling of well-being,
calm, relaxation and confidence. Many
successful published studies show effectiveness
of 5-HTP in treating depression, anxiety
and insomnia. In addition, some studies
suggest that regular use of 5-HTP may
reduce the frequency and severity of migraines
as well as other types of headaches. 5-HTP
has also been studies in small clinical
trials showing benefits in obtaining weight
loss (associated with emotional eating).
This is attributable to the effect of
serotonin on appetite. 5-HTP is believed
to promote a “full feeling”.
Bromelain
(1200 GDU):
A collection of protein-digesting enzymes
(proteolytic enzymes) found in pineapple
juice. Due to it’s ability to thin
blood and reduce inflammation, Bromelain
is used in Europe to aid in recovery from
surgery or injuries and for chronic venus
insufficiency. It is believed to increase
the absorption of various nutrients/ drugs
and is used for that purpose in many herbal
preparations.
PassionFlower:
Passion lower is a plant native to North
America, found mostly in the Midwest and
Southeast. Passionflower has been used
as folk remedy to treat anxiety. In 1985,
Germany's Commission E officially approved
passionflower as a treatment for "nervous
unrest." The herb is considered to
be a mildly effective treatment to help
ease stress, tension, nervousness and
sleeplessness.
